Between the Tides is an educational documentary surrounding the conservation of the Loggerhead and Leatherback Turtles that return to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park every year to lay their eggs, and the important people who protect them.
The film is now a Multi Award-Winning Documentary both nationally and internationally.
In 2019, Jess pitched the idea of this film to a panel of judges at the Nature, Environment and Wildlife Filmmaker's Festival. She won a R50 000 grant to create this film in the Isimangaliso Wetland Park in KwaZulu Natal. The team travelled to Sodwana Bay in February 2020 to capture the amazing life cycle of the Leatherback and Loggerhead Turtles on camera. The film also highlighted the amazing people who protect them including the amazing Turtle Monitors who leave their families to live in a camp just off the beach and patrol the beaches every night to protect nesting turtles and their hatchlings. Ufudu Turtle Tours offer guided beach tours during the nesting season and also monitor and protect the turtles. Santosh Bachoo, a Senior Wildlife Officer, runs the Turtle Monitoring Programme and has dedicated his life to the protection of our turtles.
